Skyscanner Flights & Travel Search APIs

Resolve airports, compare quoted flight dates and search dated itineraries with booking links. Build hotel shortlists, look up car-hire locations and keep travel-price comparisons tied to their currency and observation date.

Open the standalone travel demo

Your first airport autocomplete request

Replace <API_KEY> with your authorized platform API key from the dashboard. The query URL contains your key; keep it out of shared links, screenshots and logs.

The example calls flights-search-airport with query=London, market=US and locale=en-US. Inspect each suggestion's name and placeType, then reuse its paired skyId/entityId in a flight search. Suggestions can change, IATA codes can be blank and a successful request can return places:[]; no live result is guaranteed.

Base URL https://api.opendata-api.com

curl -X GET 'https://api.opendata-api.com/api/project/skyscanner/flights-search-airport?key=<API_KEY>&query=London&market=US&locale=en-US'
Flight and travel request basics
  • Flight and hotel prices are search-time observations, not confirmed inventory or guaranteed checkout amounts. Returned booking links support redirects, not ticket issuance, payment or reservation creation. Recheck selected offers; implement schedules, price history and notifications in your own application.
  • Select a real autocomplete suggestion and keep its skyId/entityId pair together. CITY and AIRPORT choices have different scopes; inspect actual itinerary airports after searching. iataCode can be blank on a valid place, and HTTP 200 with places:[] means no match. Hotel destination entityId, hotelId and car locationId serve different lookup roles; do not invent or interchange them.
  • Use future YYYY-MM-DD travel dates and YYYY-MM for monthly comparisons. Keep returnDate later than departure, order multi-city legs chronologically and require hotel checkOut after checkIn. Update dated examples before testing; an old date or unavailable quote is not evidence that a route or hotel does not exist.
  • An initial flight search can return RESULT_STATUS_INCOMPLETE together with usable itineraries and sessionToken. Send that token as sessionId for continuation or selected-itinerary details, retaining currency/countryCode from the same search. Use only your own authorized search context, protect tokens from URL and log exposure, and bound polling by backoff, request budget and timeout. Continuation fields, final counts and session lifetime were not independently verified.
  • The tested calendar returned currency and outboundDates with date, numeric price, group and hasQuote. Rank only valid quoted dates; missing or unquoted days are unknown, not zero-priced flights. Relative group labels do not promise globally lowest fares. directPrice and isDirect were not observed; recheck the chosen day with flights-search-flights and use leg stopCount to inspect stops.
  • flights-search-flights-multi-stops requires legs as a serialized JSON array string in the GET query, not a request body. Each documented leg contains originSkyId, destinationSkyId and date. Resolve locations first, URL-encode the value and validate chronology. Its response was not independently tested, and a combined offer does not prove through-ticket protection, baggage transfer or guaranteed connections.
  • Observed hotel rating is numeric, reviewCount is separate, images are URL strings and coordinates use lat/lng. distance is descriptive neighborhood text, not numeric meters. Returned hotels can be fewer than total with no exposed search pagination. Neither price.amount nor currency establishes nightly versus whole-stay pricing, taxes or cancellation terms; verify the actual offer basis before comparing costs.
  • cars-search-location resolves pickup/drop-off places with locationId, type and coordinates. Heathrow results distinguished Airport from TrainStation, and a station IATA code was blank. This is location autocomplete only: no vehicles, rental availability, supplier prices or bookings are returned by this operation.
  • Market is search-region context, locale controls language/region formatting where supported and currency is quote denomination; parameters differ by endpoint. Validate supported codes rather than assuming every combination works. For conversions, check returned base and numeric rates, retain the original amount/currency and display date. The tested USD rates were dated the previous day, not an instantaneous rate or guaranteed checkout conversion.
  • Tested response shapes cover airport lookup, one-way flight search, the departure-date calendar, hotel destination/stay search, car locations and USD exchange rates. Round-trip flights, monthly/return calendars, everywhere discovery, multi-city search, polling, flight details, hotel follow-ups and supported-code configuration require their own validation. Do not transfer named fields, totals, pagination behavior or completion guarantees from one operation to another.

Check status before interpreting travel quotes

Check HTTP status separately from the gateway's code/message/data business status: code 200 indicates gateway business success, but HTTP 200 alone does not. Inspect the operation payload inside data before reading places, outboundDates, itineraries or hotels. An empty places array is a valid no-match result; RESULT_STATUS_INCOMPLETE can accompany usable flight itineraries and is not a final result set. A returned price is not a confirmed reservation.

Choose a travel-search workflow
Resolve airports and search flight itineraries

Start with flights-search-airport and select the matching skyId/entityId pair for each end of the route. flights-search-flights requires both pairs and a future date; add returnDate for a round trip. Continue partial results using the returned sessionToken as sessionId, or inspect a returned itineraryId with the same session. Multi-city search takes dated legs as a JSON-string query value. The one-way search was tested; round-trip, continuation, details and multi-city responses need separate validation.

Find lower quoted dates and destination ideas

Use resolved originSkyId/destinationSkyId with future fromDate and optional toDate for the tested price calendar. Monthly one-way comparison requires month in YYYY-MM; return-date comparison uses fromDate and optional returnFromDate. Everywhere discovery requires an origin skyId/entityId pair and exposes no date input. These other discovery responses remain unverified: inspect coverage and recheck candidates with a dated flight search.

Resolve a lodging destination and search a stay

Use hotels-search-destination with a place name, checking type and hierarchy to distinguish cities, districts, airports and properties. Pass the selected entityId to hotels-search-hotels with future checkIn/checkOut dates, checkout after check-in, and optional adults/rooms. Paris destination and hotel searches were tested; returned hotels can be only a subset of total, and no search pagination input is exposed.

Inspect a selected hotel and compare alternatives

Take hotelId from hotel search for details, room prices, reviews or similar hotels. Details and alternatives require stay dates; prices also require the matching destination entityId, while reviews accept optional page/limit. The geographic lookup uses destination entityId and stay dates, not latitude, longitude or radius. These follow-ups were not independently tested: validate fields, pricing terms, coordinates and review paging before use.

Find rental pickup and drop-off places

Call cars-search-location with a place name such as Heathrow Airport and optional market/locale. The tested lookup returned locationId, name, type and coordinates for airport and station suggestions. Confirm the intended location type and any separate integration's identifier compatibility; this endpoint has no vehicle, rental-price or reservation search.

Configure search regions and dated conversions

config-get-locale has no inputs and documents supported markets, locales and currencies; validate its actual codes and combinations before building selectors. config-get-exchange-rates accepts optional baseCurrency, defaulting to USD. The tested USD response returned base, date and numeric rates. Preserve original prices, confirm the conversion basis and show the rate date; other bases and the configuration response remain unverified.

Search One-Way or Round-Trip Flights

Full docs β†’
Details

Search a route using originSkyId/originEntityId and destinationSkyId/destinationEntityId pairs selected from airport autocomplete, plus a future departure date in YYYY-MM-DD format. Omit returnDate for a one-way search or supply a later return date for a round trip. Optional inputs control adults, childrens, infants, cabinClass, currency, market and countryCode. The observed one-way response contains sessionToken, status, total and itineraries. Each itinerary has id, price with amount/currency/formatted, legs, score, tags and bookingUrl; each leg includes origin, destination, departure, arrival, durationMinutes, stopCount and carriers with name/logoUrl. A London city search returned Heathrow-to-JFK options, so inspect the actual leg airports rather than assuming city identifiers select a single airport. RESULT_STATUS_INCOMPLETE can accompany usable itineraries: pass sessionToken as sessionId to the polling operation for further results. Prices and booking links are dated search observations, not ticket issuance or guaranteed current offers. The round-trip response has not been independently verified.

Find Airports and Cities for Flight Search

Full docs β†’
Details

Autocomplete an airport or city name with required query and optional market/locale codes. The observed response is an object with places; suggestions include skyId, entityId, iataCode, name, cityName, countryName, placeType and coordinates.lat/lng. London returned a CITY suggestion with skyId LOND and entityId 27544008, plus AIRPORT suggestions such as London Heathrow with skyId LHR and entityId 95565050. Use the selected suggestion's paired identifiers in subsequent flight searches, and distinguish city-wide selections from individual airports. iataCode can be an empty string even for a valid airport. A deliberately nonexistent query returned HTTP 200 with places:[], so an empty list is a clean no-match result, not evidence of an outage. Suggestion order and count can change.

Continue an Incomplete Flight Search

Full docs β†’
Details

Continue a previously started flight search by passing its returned sessionToken as the required sessionId query parameter. Keep currency and countryCode consistent with the original request. The tested initial flight search produced RESULT_STATUS_INCOMPLETE with usable itineraries and a nonempty token; this polling operation itself has not been independently verified, so no final-result schema, completion count or session lifetime is guaranteed. Inspect the actual response before merging additional results, deduplicate itineraries when their identifiers are available, and stop polling on explicit completion or an application-selected timeout. Session values are transient request context: obtain one from your own search, keep it private and never hard-code a captured value into public examples.

Inspect a Selected Flight Itinerary

Full docs β†’
Details

Request the documented detail view for a selected itinerary using its itineraryId and the associated flight search's session token as sessionId. Use an itinerary returned by your own search and retain that search's currency and countryCode. This operation is intended to expose itinerary details and booking options; its response structure has not been independently verified, so do not assume baggage, fare rules, seller coverage or any named detail field will be present. Inspect returned content before presenting it, and handle unavailable or expired search context by starting a new search rather than constructing IDs. This is a read-only offer lookup, not a payment or ticketing endpoint.

Search a Multi-City Flight Itinerary

Full docs β†’
Details

Submit a multi-city travel plan in the required legs query parameter as a serialized JSON array string. Each documented leg contains originSkyId, destinationSkyId and date in YYYY-MM-DD format; resolve places with airport autocomplete and order legs chronologically. This is a GET query input, not a JSON request body. Optional adults, cabinClass and currency apply to the search. Multi-city response fields have not been independently verified, so inspect the returned structure before assuming it matches the one-way search schema or exposes session polling. Compare usable offers cautiously: a combined price alone does not establish through-ticket protection, checked-baggage transfer or connection guarantees.

Compare Flight Quotes Across Departure Dates

Full docs β†’
Details

Compare quoted departure-date prices for originSkyId and destinationSkyId, starting at required fromDate; provide optional toDate to make the future YYYY-MM-DD range explicit. Optional currency, market and cabinClass describe the comparison context. The observed response contains currency and outboundDates entries with date, numeric price, group and hasQuote. A London–New York query returned every day of the requested eight-day range, with low/medium group labels. Coverage on other routes can vary: exclude absent or unquoted dates when ranking prices rather than treating them as zero. The observed payload did not contain directPrice or isDirect, so this calendar does not establish non-stop availability. Recheck a chosen date with a route-specific flight search before showing bookable itineraries.

Explore Monthly One-Way Flight Prices

Full docs β†’
Details

Request the documented monthly one-way price comparison for originSkyId, destinationSkyId and month in YYYY-MM format, with optional currency and market. Resolve route identifiers before searching and choose a future travel month. The operation is intended to return the lowest quoted one-way prices by departure day, but its actual response fields and day coverage have not been independently verified. Inspect the returned structure before extracting dates or prices, treat missing quotes as unknown rather than zero, and verify selected days with the main flight search. Compare Departure and Return Date Combinations

Full docs β†’
Details

Request the documented round-trip price comparison using originSkyId, destinationSkyId and a future outbound fromDate in YYYY-MM-DD format. Optional returnFromDate supplies the start of the return-date comparison, while currency and market set the price context. The operation is intended to compare outbound/return date combinations; its actual grid structure, returned date span and quote completeness have not been independently verified. These inputs do not document arbitrary outbound or return end dates, so do not invent unsupported range controls. Search Hotels by Destination and Stay Dates

Full docs β†’
Details

Search accommodation using entityId from hotel destination autocomplete and future checkIn/checkOut dates in YYYY-MM-DD format, with checkOut later than checkIn. Optional adults, rooms, currency and market define the stay context. The observed Paris response contains destinationName, total and hotels; each hotel includes hotelId, name, stars, numeric rating, reviewCount, price.amount/currency, images as URL strings, amenities, url, coordinates.lat/lng and distance as a descriptive neighborhood string. Do not treat rating as a nested score object, image strings as caption objects or distance as numeric meters. The returned list can be only a subset of total, and this operation exposes no pagination parameter. Autocomplete a hotel destination using required query and optional market/locale codes. The observed response contains places with entityId, name, type, hierarchy and coordinates.lat/lng. Paris returned the city in France with entityId 27539733, alongside airport, district and hotel suggestions, including a similarly named property in Las Vegas. Use hierarchy and type to select the intended geographic scope before passing entityId to hotel search. hierarchy is descriptive text separated by vertical bars, and type values can use different capitalization; preserve them rather than assuming an exhaustive normalized enum. Travel data capabilities and verification scope

Build flight-comparison, flexible-date discovery and hotel-shortlist applications with structured Skyscanner travel search data. Resolve destinations into search identifiers, compare dated price quotes and connect travelers to returned booking links.

  • Flight search: one-way and round-trip itineraries with prices, carriers, segment times, stops and booking URLs
  • Airport autocomplete: city and airport suggestions with skyId, entityId, place type and coordinates
  • Flexible travel dates: daily price calendars, documented monthly one-way comparisons and return-date combinations
  • Progressive flight results: initial searches can be incomplete; use the returned session token for subsequent polling
  • Hotels: destination lookup and stay-date searches with property IDs, numeric ratings, review counts, amenities, images and coordinates
  • Hotel follow-ups: documented property details, room-price, review, similar-property and map operations
  • Car-hire locations: pickup/drop-off autocomplete with location IDs, not vehicles or rental prices
  • Localization: market, language and currency inputs, documented supported-code lists and dated exchange rates

Results are search snapshots, not confirmed reservations or guaranteed fares. Recheck selected dates and offers before redirecting users. Scheduling, price history and alerts belong in your application; this API does not issue tickets or create bookings. Follow-up response structures must be checked before relying on undocumented fields.
