Get Accounts a Public User Follows
View all X (Twitter) Public Data API endpoints →Pass required screenname for the account whose following list you need. Optional rest_id and cursor are available; the rest_id precedence behavior was not independently tested, so retain required screenname and validate any ID-based selection. The observed response has status=ok, following, next_cursor and more_users. Returned profiles include user_id, screen_name, name, description, profile_image, website, created_at, statuses_count, followers_count, friends_count and media_count. Field availability can vary, and these counters describe each returned account, not the selected account's full relationship history. Deduplicate user_id across cursor pages, retain collection time and do not equate missing rows with confirmed unfollows.

Use Cases
- Map an institution's returned public subscriptions to discover related accounts for a subject-specific reading list.
- Compare equivalent following snapshots to study newly observed subscriptions without asserting confirmed unfollows.
- Enrich a sector research directory with the returned profile context of accounts followed by a known institution.
- Inspect overlap among public institutions' observed subscriptions to seed a source-discovery workflow.
Frequently asked questions
How do I read the accounts a public user follows?
Supply required screenname. The verified response includes following, next_cursor and more_users; continue with cursor for the same account and deduplicate string user_id values. Optional rest_id selection has not been independently tested.
Can a missing account in a later snapshot prove an unfollow?
No. A page records observed coverage at collection time, not a complete relationship history. Field availability and returned coverage can vary, so treat missing rows as unobserved rather than confirmed unfollows.
