Search Crunchbase Investors
View all Crunchbase Company & Investment Data endpoints →Search investor-name matches with optional industry, investment-stage, investor-type, location and minimum deal-count filters. All query parameters are optional. query matches text within an investor name; category and location accept a permalink, UUID or name. investor_stage and investor_type use documented tokens, while min_exits and min_investments specify minimum counts of at least 1. page defaults to 1 and supports 1 through 100. sort defaults to rank and also accepts investments, exits or name. The observed response is a paginated object with count, per_page, current_page, total_pages, next, previous, sort and an items array. Investor items expose id, uuid, name, type, link, image, rank and short_description; categories contain id and name. A populated location object contains city, region, country, continent, groups and ids. Other observed fields are investments_count, exits_count, ipo_exits_count, diversity_spotlight_investments_count, investor_type, investor_stage, founded_on and last_funding_type. Location, image, classification and investment statistics may be null; retain unknown values rather than treating them as zero. An observed check with query=sequoia and page=1 returned count=23, current_page=1, total_pages=2, sort=rank and 15 items. Its first match was Sequoia Capital in Menlo Park with investments_count=2495. investor_type and investor_stage were null in the checked results, and some other matches had no investment count. This check supports name discovery and pagination, not independent verification of every filter, current investing activity or the suitability of every match for fundraising.

Use Cases
- Prepare a seed-stage fundraising research queue using industry, location and investor-type criteria, then review portfolio relevance before outreach.
- Resolve similar investor names into separate CRM candidates using returned profile identifiers, descriptions and available locations.
- Prioritize venture-capital profile review with minimum historical investment or exit counts while preserving missing statistics.
- Compare name-matching investor candidates in a paginated analyst worksheet without labeling every result as an active fund.
- Collect investor profile references for follow-up portfolio and investment-history research before making a suitability judgment.
Frequently asked questions
Which investor search filters can I supply?
All inputs are optional. Use query for text contained in an investor name; category, investor_stage, investor_type and location for targeting; and min_exits or min_investments for minimum historical counts. The available observed check used only query=sequoia and page=1, so it does not independently verify every filter combination.
How do I specify an industry or location?
category and location accept a permalink, UUID or name. Documented examples include artificial-intelligence or FinTech for category, and san-francisco-california, United States or London for location. Use Search Industries and Search Locations when you need reference identifiers.
Can I distinguish angels from venture-capital firms?
The documented investor_type values include angel, individual and venture_capital, among other types. investor_stage is a separate filter with values such as seed, early_stage_venture and late_stage_venture. These are input criteria; investor_type and investor_stage were null in the observed name-search results.
How do investor pagination and sorting work?
page defaults to 1 and accepts integers from 1 through 100. sort defaults to rank and accepts rank, investments, exits or name. The response includes count, per_page, current_page, total_pages, next and previous; do not assume the observed 15-item page is a guaranteed page size for every request.
Does a match prove that an investor is currently investing?
No. The observed Sequoia-name search included Sequoia Capital with investments_count=2495, but this is profile context rather than a current-activity signal. Some other matches lacked investment counts. Review portfolio and investment history before treating a match as a relevant active investor.
How should I handle missing investor statistics?
Keep null values as unknown. The observed records had null investor_type, investor_stage, exits_count, ipo_exits_count and founded_on, while investments_count, location, image and other fields also varied in availability. A missing count must not be converted into evidence of zero investments or exits.
