Get a detailed Crunchbase company profile

View all Crunchbase Company & Investment Data endpoints →

Retrieve one company profile using the required company query parameter. The documented input forms are a Crunchbase organization permalink, UUID or full crunchbase.com/organization/ URL; a bare website domain is not a documented identifier for this operation. The observed successful Stripe lookup returned a flat company object, not an items array or a nested company envelope. Profile fields included id, uuid, name, legal_name, aliases, link, image, short_description, description, website, email, phone, operating_status, company_type, ipo_status, employee_count, categories and category_groups. The founders array contained person identities, while social held network links and location held city, region, country, continent, groups and ids. Contact fields may be present but usable contact coverage is not guaranteed. Observed research sections included rank with category rankings; funding with round and investor counts, last-round type and nullable totals; investing with investment and portfolio counts; people with employee, advisor and contact counts; growth with growth and heat scores; and technology with technology, product, app, traffic, patent and trademark statistics plus an it_spend object. Other observed fields included founded_on, closed_on, revenue_range, hub_tags, hubs, acquisition and subsidiary counts, acquired_by, ipo, signals_count, articles_count and products. These are available profile attributes, not a guarantee that every company has every value. The live profile contained null dates and financial values, including funding totals and valuation. Preserve null as unknown rather than zero and do not infer a complete financial history or real-time freshness. A separate deliberately nonexistent permalink returned HTTP 404 with an error message identifying the requested company as not found. Only permalink lookups were verified in the supplied live evidence; UUID and URL input forms are documented rather than individually tested here.

API Features

Flat company identity record Read identifiers, legal and display names, website, business descriptions and available contact fields from a single profile object.
Founders and headquarters context Connect founder identity records with the company location object and available social links for an account-research overview.
Staffing and business classification Use employee_count, categories, category_groups and separate people counts to describe the company without conflating distinct staffing fields.
Rank, growth and technology sections Inspect category rankings, growth and heat scores, technology counts, traffic statistics and intellectual-property counts when populated.
Funding and investing overview Read round, investor, investment and portfolio summary fields while retaining unknown totals, valuations and dates as null.
Observed missing-company response The negative lookup returned HTTP 404 with a company-not-found error, allowing a missing record to be handled separately from a successful profile.

Use Cases

Frequently asked questions

What can I pass as the company identifier?

The documented forms are a Crunchbase organization permalink such as openai, a company UUID, or a full crunchbase.com/organization/ URL. This operation does not document a bare website domain or a free-text company-name search. The supplied live checks used permalinks.

Is the profile returned inside an items array?

No items array was used in the observed successful response. The Stripe lookup returned a flat object with company identity fields and nested social, location, rank, funding, investing, people, growth and technology sections.

Does the profile include founders, staffing and technology information?

The observed profile included founder identity records, an employee_count field, separate employee and contact counts in people, and technology statistics. These fields describe different aspects of the profile and are not interchangeable or guaranteed to be populated for every company.

Can I treat missing funding values or dates as zero?

No. The observed profile included null financial totals, valuation and dates. Keep these values unknown; the funding and investing sections are summaries and should not be treated as a complete dated financing history.

What happened when a company did not exist?

The deliberately nonexistent permalink returned HTTP 404 with an error stating that the requested company was not found. Handle that result separately from a successful profile response.
