Look up a Crunchbase acquisition and its deal context

View all Crunchbase Company & Investment Data endpoints →

Retrieve a single acquisition using the required acquisition query parameter. Supply a Crunchbase acquisition permalink, UUID or acquisition page URL; this identifies the deal, not the buyer or acquired company's organization profile. The documented response example is a flat deal object with id, uuid, name and link; acquirer and acquiree objects each contain id, uuid, name, type, image and link. Company context appears in acquirer_categories and acquiree_categories, the corresponding funding_total, location and short_description fields, and acquiree_last_funding_type. Category entries contain id and name; location objects contain city, region, country, continent, groups and ids. Deal fields include acquisition_type, status, announced_on, completed_on, price, terms, rank and short_description. The example also contains articles_count and a press array whose entries include id, title, link, publisher, date, author, type and related entities with id, uuid, name, type and link. No live probe is recorded for this endpoint, so these are unverified documented example fields, not a confirmed response schema. In that example, price, both funding totals, both deal dates, terms and the deal short_description are null; a press author can also be null. Do not infer a sale price or closing date from missing data, or treat linked coverage alone as proof that a deal completed.

API Features

Deal-specific identifier lookup Resolve one acquisition permalink, UUID or Crunchbase acquisition URL rather than confusing a deal record with an organization record.
Buyer and target context together The documented example pairs acquirer and acquiree identities with separate category, location, funding-total and company-description fields for analyst review.
Announcement and completion distinction Research acquisition_type, status, announced_on and completed_on as separate deal attributes; the example leaves both dates null, so a timeline is not guaranteed.
Press metadata attached to the deal The source example includes articles_count and press entries with titles, publishers, dates, links and related entity references, not guaranteed full article text.
Explicit gaps in financial context Treat price, terms and funding totals as potentially unavailable: all are null in the unverified documented example, rather than evidence of a zero-value deal.

Use Cases

Frequently asked questions

What can I pass as the acquisition parameter?

Use a Crunchbase acquisition permalink, the acquisition's UUID or a Crunchbase acquisition page URL. This endpoint expects a deal record; a buyer or target organization identifier is not the same input.

How are the buyer and acquired company represented?

The unverified documented example uses acquirer for the buyer and acquiree for the target. Each has identity fields, with separate category, location, funding-total and short-description fields alongside the deal. The target also has acquiree_last_funding_type.

Does an acquisition record always contain the price and closing date?

No. The documented example has null price, announced_on, completed_on, terms and funding totals. Keep these values unknown rather than treating null as zero or inventing a completion date. No live probe for this endpoint confirms broader field availability.

Does press coverage prove that the acquisition completed?

No. The example's press entries provide article metadata and links, not a completion guarantee. Review status and completed_on when available and verify the cited reporting before marking a transaction as closed.

Does the press array contain full news articles?

The documented example shows title, publisher, date, link, author, type, id and related entity references. It does not establish full article text; author can be null, and articles_count should not be assumed to equal the number of entries returned in press.
