Search Movies and Series by Title
View all Streaming Availability endpoints →Provide a title phrase and a supported lowercase country code to find candidate movies and series. Optionally restrict show_type to movie or series; leaving it unset searches both. The response is a raw array of show objects, with no shows wrapper or cursor pagination. The observed Titanic movie search returned 20 candidates, including Titanic (1997), with id, imdbId, tmdbId, title, originalTitle, releaseYear, overview, genres, directors, cast, rating, runtime, imageSet and country-keyed streamingOptions. Matching uses title and show type, so a result can exist without being streamable in the requested country. Check each candidate's identity and streamingOptions before displaying a where-to-watch link. The documented limit is normally 20 results, except that all exact-title matches can be returned when there are more than 20. series_granularity affects series only: show omits season and episode detail, season includes seasons, and episode includes both. Use the catalog search instead when you need paginated browsing.

Use Cases
- Offer a watchlist title picker that asks users to choose the correct release year before saving an IMDb or TMDB identity.
- Add a film-review search box that shows candidate metadata even when a movie has no viewing option in the visitor's market.
- Resolve free-text titles from an imported reading or viewing list, sending ambiguous names to manual selection rather than guessing.
- Let a movie-only or series-only discovery form narrow similarly named results before opening a selected title's detail page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I search when I only know the title, not its IMDb or TMDB ID?
Yes. Provide title and a supported country, optionally narrowing show_type to movie or series. Compare release year, cast and external identifiers before selecting a candidate, then use its identifier for subsequent detail lookups.
Why can a matching movie have no viewing links in my country?
Title matching identifies a work; it does not guarantee local availability. Check streamingOptions for the requested country separately. Missing or empty options should be displayed as no reported local destination, not an invented service link or a claim that the movie does not exist.
How do I request another page after receiving 20 title matches?
Title search has no cursor pagination. It normally returns up to 20 candidates, with an exception for more than 20 exact-title matches. Use catalog search with hasMore and nextCursor when you need paginated regional browsing.
How should I distinguish movies and series with the same name?
Optionally restrict show_type to movie or series, then compare releaseYear, cast, imdbId and tmdbId. Do not select the first candidate solely by display title. Save the confirmed type and identifier to avoid repeating ambiguous matching.
