Find Property Search Locations
View All Realtor Property Data APIs →Submit location text to obtain a location-selection list for property searches. The New York, NY test returned an object with a data array; observed suggestion fields include id, full_address, area_type, city, state_code, country, centroid, counties and a nullable propertyId. The first city suggestion had id=city:New York, NY. Pass the returned id to a property search and do not confuse it with property_id or listing_id. The success payload has no status or message envelope. A nonexistent location returned exactly {"data":[]}, which is a valid no-match result. limit=5 returned 10 suggestions, so apply a client-side display cap when needed rather than promising the requested limit is honored.

Use Cases
- Power a location typeahead that displays full_address and area_type before a user selects a place.
- Normalize saved property searches with returned location IDs and geographic context.
- Cap suggestion lists locally while retaining the original response for debugging count mismatches.
- Show a genuine no-location-match state rather than silently substituting a different city.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use an autocomplete city ID as property_id?
No. A suggestion id selects a search location, property_id identifies a property and listing_id identifies a listing. Search using the location ID, then obtain property and listing identifiers from the results.
Is data=[] an autocomplete failure?
Not necessarily. An unknown location returned {"data":[]} as a valid no-match payload. This payload has no status/message fields; also inspect the gateway business status.
Why can limit=5 return ten location suggestions?
The observed response did not enforce limit as a strict count cap. If a typeahead should display at most five items, apply that display limit locally rather than relying on the requested count.
