Search LinkedIn People by Name

View all LinkedIn Data API endpoints →

Search by the required name keyword, then narrow matches with current_company, past_company, title, geocode_location, school, industry or profile_language. Company, location and several other filters accept comma-separated IDs. A successful live response returned data records with id, urn, public_identifier, full_name, title, location, url, avatar and profile flags, plus page, total and has_more. Use the returned public_identifier for a profile lookup; a name match alone does not establish identity.

API Features

Name-led matching The name keyword is required even when workplace or job-title filters are supplied.
Workplace disambiguation Use current_company and past_company IDs to separate people with similar names.
Canonical username handoff Returned public_identifier and urn values connect selected matches to profile and section lookups.
Paged candidate summaries Read full_name, title, location and profile flags alongside page, total and has_more.

Use Cases

Frequently asked questions

Can I search by job title without supplying a name?

No. name is required for this endpoint. title, current_company and other filters narrow that name-based search; they do not make it an unrestricted title-only directory.

Which value should I pass to the profile endpoint?

Use the selected result's public_identifier as username. The live Bill Gates search returned williamhgates; do not guess the username from the display name.
