Get a Yelp contributor's public profile and activity counts
View all Yelp Business, Reviews & Restaurant Data endpoints →Retrieve one public Yelp contributor profile using the required user input, either a 22-character Yelp user ID or a Yelp profile URL. An observed successful HTTP 200 response was a direct user object, not a results list. Observed identity and profile fields were id, name, first_name, link, location, joined, tagline and about; joined was a display string containing a month and year, while tagline and about were null in that response. Integer activity fields were review_count, review_update_count, first_to_review_count, photo_count, video_count, friend_count, follower_count, following_count, question_count, answer_count, events_created_count, expert_recognition_count, compliment_count and reactions_received. The compliments object contained integer counters named thank_you, good_writer, great_photo, just_a_note, cute_pic, hot_stuff, like_your_profile, write_more, you_are_cool, great_lists and you_are_funny. These counters are not individual compliment messages. Elite-related fields included is_elite as a boolean and elite_year, elite_years and is_elite_all_star as null in the observed response. The profile_photos array contained objects with id, link and thumbnail_link strings, plus caption, width, height and uploaded_at, which were null in the inspected photo. The catalog describes biography and Elite-year content, but non-null values and their formats were not established by this sample; the supplied source success example itself was an empty object. Preserve absent or null attributes rather than inventing values. Counts and public profile attributes provide activity context, not verified identity, a trust score, email discovery or permission to contact the person.

Use Cases
- Attach a minimal public contributor context card to an internal review-audit record without presenting the account as a verified identity.
- Test a contributor-card schema against observed integer counters, joined display text and nullable biography fields before storing profile snapshots.
- Compare public activity counts across an approved contributor cohort while avoiding fraud, expertise or trustworthiness scores based on community status.
- Display a user-requested profile summary with available image links and compliment category totals under a defined retention policy.
Frequently asked questions
Which input identifies the contributor profile?
The required user parameter accepts a 22-character Yelp user ID or a Yelp profile URL. This endpoint requests one profile and has no pagination parameters.
What response shape was actually observed?
A successful HTTP 200 response contained a direct user object with identity fields, location, joined text, activity counters, compliments and profile_photos. The separate source success example was only an empty object; the detailed field descriptions come from the observed response.
Are joined and Elite years guaranteed date values?
No. joined was observed as a month-and-year display string, not a standardized timestamp. elite_year and elite_years were null in that sample, so the format of populated Elite-year values remains unverified.
Does compliments contain individual messages?
No individual messages were observed in this profile response. compliments was an object of integer category counters, and compliment_count was a separate total. Use the received-compliments operation for the documented message-level capability.
Which profile photo details can be missing?
The inspected profile_photos entry had id, link and thumbnail_link strings, while caption, width, height and uploaded_at were null. Preserve missing or null metadata instead of fabricating captions, dimensions or upload dates.
Can profile counts verify someone's identity or provide their email?
No. These are public account and activity attributes, not identity verification or an email-discovery result. Do not infer permission to contact a person from their public profile or counts.
