Get business photos by category or caption keyword

View all Yelp Business, Reviews & Restaurant Data endpoints →

Retrieve photo metadata for one Yelp business using its alias, 22-character business ID or Yelp business URL. Optionally select a category alias or filter captions with query. The documented defaults are category=all, page=1 and page_size=30; page accepts 1-1000 and page_size accepts 1-100. Read the returned categories to discover the aliases available for that business. A recorded response for page=1 and page_size=3 contained count=14885 and three photos, not 14885 returned records. Its top-level pagination fields were count, per_page, current_page, total_pages, next and previous. The business object contained id, alias, name and link; categories contained alias, name and photo_count. Each photos record exposed id, an original-size link, thumbnail_link, caption, width, height, uploaded_at, tags, like_count, uploaded_by and review_id. The uploaded_by object exposed id, name, link, location, photo_link, review_count, friend_count, photo_count, elite_year, is_elite and is_elite_all_star. Field presence does not guarantee that every value is populated on other pages or businesses. The documentation also describes a videos category, but video-specific fields were not verified by this photo response. Media links are references, not a grant of download or republication rights. Retain uploader information only as needed for your permitted use.

API Features

Business-specific photo categories Use category aliases and the returned category names and photo counts to organize imagery for a single business.
Caption keyword filtering Narrow photo captions with query, such as a dish keyword, rather than assuming every photo depicts a relevant item.
Original-size image references Index the observed original-size link, thumbnail_link, width and height fields without treating links as image-use permission.
Photo totals separate from page length Use count and pagination metadata independently of the photos array; the recorded request returned three photos alongside count=14885.
Uploader and photo engagement context The recorded photo objects included like_count and uploaded_by metadata; collect only the uploader fields necessary for your workflow.

Use Cases

Frequently asked questions

Which business identifiers can I use to retrieve photos?

The required business parameter accepts a Yelp business alias, a 22-character Yelp business ID or a Yelp business URL. For example, gary-danko-san-francisco is a documented alias. It identifies one listing rather than a city-wide photo search.

How do I choose a photo category or search captions?

Use a category alias from the returned categories array. Omitting category uses all. Documentation examples include food, drink, interior, outside, menu and videos, but availability varies by business. The optional query parameter matches a keyword in photo captions; it is not a business-name search.

Why can count be much larger than the photos array?

The response reports pagination metadata separately from the records on the current page. A recorded request with page_size=3 returned three photos while count was 14885. Do not use count as the length of the current photos array or as proof that every record has been retrieved.

What page and page_size values are documented?

page is an integer from 1 to 1000 and defaults to 1. page_size is an integer from 1 to 100 and defaults to 30. Inspect the returned pagination metadata instead of assuming that every page is full.

Were photo and video response fields both verified?

The recorded response verified photo records, business identity, category records and pagination metadata. Photo fields included original-size and thumbnail links, captions, dimensions, upload time, tags, like counts, uploader information and a review reference. The documentation mentions videos, but no video-specific response fields were verified.

May I republish the original-size images or uploader information?

An image link does not grant download, display or republication rights. Check applicable permissions before using images and retain only the public uploader details needed for your permitted purpose.
