Get a Public Threads Profile by Username
View all Threads Public Data API endpoints →Provide a required Threads username to retrieve its public profile. The response includes status, request_id and data.user. Observed profile fields include string pk and id, username, full_name, is_verified, follower_count, biography and profile_pic_url. The public zuck account resolved consistently to Mark Zuckerberg with pk and id 63055343223. Preserve account identifiers as strings, and treat the follower count as an observation that can change between requests. A tested nonexistent username returned status:ok with data.user:null. Keep that as an unavailable profile observation, not proof of deletion. This operation does not return follower identities, private activity or audience demographics. Use the separate bio-link profile lookup when optional public links are needed, or the account-post operation for available content.

Use Cases
- Known-handle enrichment: append a public display name, biography and verification flag to an existing creator or brand reference record.
- Follower-count observation series: store retrieval times and reported totals for selected accounts, then calculate changes between your own snapshots.
- Internal public-profile cards: show returned identity fields while explicitly handling a null user instead of substituting an unrelated account.
- Account-reference reconciliation: compare the returned string pk and id against a previously selected profile to distinguish stored account keys from display-name changes.
Frequently asked questions
What should I put in username?
Use the account handle, such as zuck, rather than a display name, profile URL or numeric account ID. If only a name is known, use account search first and review the candidate usernames.
What does data.user:null mean?
The profile was unavailable for that lookup. A tested nonexistent handle returned status:ok with user:null. Keep this as an empty profile observation; it does not establish that the account was deleted or explain why the profile was unavailable.
Does follower_count give me a follower list or private audience insights?
No. It is an observed public total, not follower identities, demographics, reach or private account analytics. You can compare your own timestamped count observations, but the API does not explain why a count changed.
How should account identifiers be stored?
Keep pk and id as strings exactly as returned, even when they contain only digits. Do not convert them to floating-point numbers or use a display name as the account key.
