Amazon Best Sellers API: Track BSR, Movers & New Releases
Amazon's ranked charts — Best Sellers, Movers & Shakers, New Releases, Most Wished For and Gift Ideas — are some of the most-watched pages in e-commerce. Sellers scan them for product ideas, analysts read them as demand signals, and deal sites mine them for content. But they are HTML pages built for browsers, not pipelines: there is no official endpoint that hands you the chart as structured data, and the official product APIs that do exist come with seller-account or affiliate-sales gates.
An Amazon Best Sellers API closes that gap. One GET request per category and chart type returns the ranked list as clean JSON — rank, ASIN, title, price, rating and, on Movers & Shakers, the rank-change label — across 24 marketplaces. This guide walks through pulling each chart, paging all 50 entries, and turning daily snapshots into a trend-alert and FBA product-sourcing pipeline.
Step 1 — Get an API key
Sign up and copy an active key from your Dashboard. Free credits are included for testing.
Step 2 — Pull a Best Sellers chart
The best-sellers operation takes two key parameters:
category(required) — a top-level department likesoftware, or a nested subcategory path likesoftware/229535. The path mirrors what you see in Amazon's own Best Sellers URLs.type(optional, defaultBEST_SELLERS) — one of five chart types:BEST_SELLERS— the most popular products by recent salesNEW_RELEASES— the best-selling new and future releasesMOVERS_AND_SHAKERS— the biggest gainers in sales rank over 24 hoursMOST_WISHED_FOR— products most often added to wish lists and registriesGIFT_IDEAS— the most popular products purchased as gifts
curl "https://api.opendata-api.com/api/project/amazon/best-sellers?key=YOUR_API_KEY&category=software&type=BEST_SELLERS"
Each entry in the response carries:
rank— the product's position on the chartasin,product_title,product_url,product_photoproduct_price,product_star_rating,product_num_ratingsrank_change_label— the climb or drop vs. the previous period (present on Movers & Shakers, e.g. a jump of several positions)category_name— the resolved category for the request
Step 3 — Page all 50 entries
A chart page holds 50 ranked products. Pass page to walk the whole chart:
curl "https://api.opendata-api.com/api/project/amazon/best-sellers?key=YOUR_API_KEY&category=software&type=MOVERS_AND_SHAKERS&page=2"
For most monitoring workloads page 1 is the signal that matters — the top 50 is where movement is meaningful — but paging gives you the full picture when you need it.
Step 4 — Change marketplace
Every chart is per-marketplace. The country parameter accepts 24 values — US, GB, DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, SE, PL, BE, IE, CA, MX, BR, AU, JP, IN, SG, AE, SA, EG, ZA, TR and CN:
curl "https://api.opendata-api.com/api/project/amazon/best-sellers?key=YOUR_API_KEY&category=electronics&type=NEW_RELEASES&country=JP"
Category paths are locale-specific, so a category that exists in the US may have a different path (or not exist) in Japan. When you roll out to a new marketplace, verify the category path against that country's own Best Sellers pages first.
Step 5 — Build a daily snapshot pipeline in Python
The useful unit is not one chart pull — it is a time series. Snapshot the charts you care about once a day, keyed by ASIN, and diff consecutive snapshots to detect entries, exits and big rank moves:
import requests
import json
from datetime import date
API_KEY = "YOUR_API_KEY"
BASE = "https://api.opendata-api.com/api/project/amazon/best-sellers"
def fetch_chart(category, chart_type, country="US", page=1):
resp = requests.get(BASE, params={
"key": API_KEY,
"category": category,
"type": chart_type,
"country": country,
"page": page,
}, timeout=30)
resp.raise_for_status()
return resp.json()
# Snapshot today's Movers & Shakers for a category
data = fetch_chart("software", "MOVERS_AND_SHAKERS")
products = data.get("data", {}).get("products", data.get("products", []))
snapshot = {}
for item in products:
snapshot[item["asin"]] = {
"rank": item.get("rank"),
"title": item.get("product_title"),
"price": item.get("product_price"),
"rating": item.get("product_star_rating"),
"rank_change": item.get("rank_change_label"),
}
filename = f"movers-software-{date.today().isoformat()}.json"
with open(filename, "w") as f:
json.dump(snapshot, f, indent=2)
print(f"Saved {len(snapshot)} ranked products to {filename}")
Run this on a cron schedule per category and marketplace. Comparing yesterday's snapshot with today's gives you three alert classes: new entries (ASIN present today, absent yesterday), exits, and big climbers (rank improved by more than a threshold you set). On Movers & Shakers the rank_change_label already encodes movement, so a single snapshot is enough to spot the fastest risers without diffing.
Step 6 — Enrich the hits with product details
A chart row tells you an ASIN is moving; it does not tell you whether the product is worth sourcing. Feed interesting ASINs into the product-details operation — it accepts up to 10 comma-separated ASINs per call — to get price, availability, offer count, review velocity signals and sales volume:
const API_KEY = "YOUR_API_KEY";
async function enrichAsins(asins) {
const url = new URL("https://api.opendata-api.com/api/project/amazon/product-details");
url.searchParams.set("key", API_KEY);
url.searchParams.set("asin", asins.join(",")); // up to 10 per call
const resp = await fetch(url);
if (!resp.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${resp.status}`);
return resp.json();
}
// Screen the top Movers & Shakers entries for sourcing potential
const hits = await enrichAsins(["B0DGHMNQ5Z", "B0EXAMPLE123"]);
for (const product of Object.values(hits.data ?? hits)) {
console.log(
product.asin,
product.product_price,
product.product_availability,
product.product_num_offers,
product.sales_volume
);
}
A practical FBA sourcing filter: rising on Movers & Shakers or New Releases, price in your target band, fewer than a handful of competing offers, and a review count low enough that the niche is not yet locked up. The chart gives you the candidates; product details give you the verdict.
Companion endpoints worth knowing
products-by-category— browse a whole category with price, brand, Prime and rating filters, for market sizing beyond the top 50.product-category-list— the department and category ID list per marketplace, useful for building category pickers.deals— today's deals and lightning deals with savings percentages and percent-claimed urgency signals, a natural complement for deal-alert products.scrape-by-url— paste any Amazon chart URL and get the same structured JSON back.
Use cases
- FBA product sourcing — spot rising products in New Releases and Movers & Shakers before they saturate, then validate with offer counts and review depth.
- Trend detection — daily snapshots across categories feed rank-movement alerts for analysts and brand teams.
- Seasonal and gift demand — Most Wished For and Gift Ideas are leading indicators for Q4 inventory planning.
- Market intelligence dashboards — chart category leaders over time across several marketplaces from one integration.
- Content and affiliate sites — auto-generate "what's hot in X" roundups from live chart data instead of hand-curating.
FAQ
Is there an official Amazon product data API? Amazon offers the Product Advertising API for affiliates and SP-API for sellers, but PA-API requires qualifying affiliate sales to keep access and does not expose the Best Sellers charts as a feed, and SP-API requires a seller account and only covers your own business data. For chart, price and catalog data without those gates, a third-party data API like this one is the practical route.
How can I track Amazon Best Sellers and Movers & Shakers automatically?
Call the best-sellers operation with your category and type=BEST_SELLERS or type=MOVERS_AND_SHAKERS on a schedule, store each snapshot keyed by ASIN, and diff consecutive snapshots. Movers & Shakers entries include rank_change_label, so the biggest climbers are visible even from a single pull.
Is there an API for Amazon lightning deals and today's deals?
Yes. The deals operation returns today's deals, best deals and lightning deals with deal price, list price, savings percentage, deal state and percent claimed — filterable by category, brand, discount band, Prime exclusivity and lightning-only.
Can I get Amazon product data without a seller account or affiliate sales? Yes. This API needs only an API key — no seller account, no affiliate application and no sales quota to maintain. You get search, product details, offers, reviews, charts and deals as JSON from the first request.
Why does Amazon PA-API stop working and what can I use instead? PA-API credentials are revoked when an affiliate account fails to generate qualifying sales, and its rate limits scale with your revenue — so integrations break exactly when a product is young. A data API with flat per-request pricing has no such dependency, which is why many teams migrate their product-data layer to one.
How many Amazon marketplaces can I query with one API?
24. The country parameter covers the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Belgium, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, India, Singapore, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, South Africa, Turkey and China.
How do I build a price tracker for Amazon products?
Keep a list of ASINs, poll product-details with up to 10 ASINs per call on a schedule, store product_price and product_availability per run, and alert when the price crosses your threshold or an out-of-stock item comes back. The Best Sellers charts are a good way to discover which ASINs deserve a slot on the watch list.
How do I get Amazon product prices programmatically?
One GET to product-details with an ASIN returns the live price, original price, currency and availability; product-offers adds every competing seller's price for the same ASIN. Both work in any language that can make an HTTP request.
Try it
Test the charts on the Amazon page, or read the best-sellers, product-details, products-by-category and deals references. See pricing for per-request costs.
Need data for other marketplaces — Walmart, eBay, Etsy, AliExpress, Temu, TikTok Shop, Shopee, Taobao or JD.com? APIs for similar platforms can be added on request via the contact page, and private (source-code) deployment is available for teams that need to run the stack in their own environment.
