Get Football Fixtures and Results by Date

View all Football Data API endpoints →

Read a football match-day list with event IDs, team scores, UTC kickoff timestamps and started/finished flags using a YYYYMMDD date. Pass required date, for example the observed 20261008. response.matches contains id, leagueId, home/away objects with id, name, longName and score, plus statusId, tournamentStage, status.utcTime, started, finished, cancelled and timeTS. Finished examples also include status.scoreStr and status.reason. A date response spanned two UTC dates; the calendar timezone is not established. Convert UTC timestamps and filter the intended local day client-side. A 0-0 score with started=false is not a finished draw.

API Features

Event-keyed daily list Observed match rows retain event and league IDs for enrichment and deduplication.
Participant score pairs Both home and away records contain club identities and score values in the verified date response.
Explicit match progress flags Read started and finished alongside scores; cancelled and reason fields provide additional context when present.
UTC calendar boundary handling status.utcTime and millisecond timeTS support local conversion even when source dates cross midnight in UTC.

Frequently asked questions

How do I request fixtures by date in Python?

Set date to YYYYMMDD, such as 20261008, and retain returned event IDs, UTC timestamps and state flags. Convert kickoffs with zoneinfo before filtering the intended local day.

Why can a date response include two UTC dates?

That occurred in a demonstrated response, but the source calendar timezone is not established. Do not assume UTC or the viewer's timezone; convert each kickoff and filter locally.

How do I distinguish scheduled, started and finished matches?

Check started, finished, cancelled and any supplied reason together. A 0-0 score with started=false is not a completed draw.
